Evaluation.

FMP Evaluation.
Throughout the final major project, my objectives were to explore a wide range of ideas and concepts within my chosen area, which was Generosity. I feel that I did this eventually, but I got stuck in a rut at the start and couldn’t move on from the Organ Donation idea and just kept looking at every possible aspect of this concept. I then eventually moved onto looking at other ideas but I feel I left this far too late, resulting in me not exploring my chosen area as broadly as I first wanted too.
Primary Research was really hard for me to obtain but thankfully I managed to take photos of my Parents giving blood and then moving on from that I dissected a Heart which was probably the most interesting part of the project for me, by doing this I managed to create some primary drawings and take photos which are part of my final piece.
This has probably been one of my hardest projects to get into during my foundation degree, but it has been the most interesting. During this project I have had many ups and downs, I really struggled to come up with any ideas for my final piece and like I said previously, I found it hard to move on from the Organ Donation idea and explore other ideas, if I’d had more time I would of liked to explore the love concept a lot more and how people can be generous with there love within family’s and relationships. I feel that I explored with a lot of different media during my FMP, I especially enjoyed the sewing workshop and decided that I would use sewing in a lot of my work and even in my final piece for my labels. I decided to produce 3 A2 posters for my Organ donation idea these were the annoyance of my project every time I produced a poster I just didn’t like it and couldn’t work out what it was that I didn’t like about it, but I finally produced a series of posters that I liked after scanning them into Photoshop and changing the layout dramatically and then moved on to recreating the Photoshoped one into a hand painted and collaged poster. I also decided to create 3 Jars filled with 3D Organs that I’d created using paper Mache although they looked very creative I think the way I painted these really let the piece down, but I really think the hand stitched labels really worked for them. I found it hard painting my padlocks at first with paint because it just wouldn’t stay on and kept rubbing off so I decided to paint them with nail vanish which took longer then expected because I had to wait so long for the nail vanish to dry but I eventually got them done, I think I should have possibly thought about the colours more though so that they went better with my other work.
All in all I have really enjoyed this project it was most defiantly a struggle but I am pleased with my final outcome although I don’t think it is some of my best work I am still pleased with what I have produced.

Padlocks.

Like the padlocks i saw in paris i decided i would create my own, i tried painting them with paint but whatever i tried it just smudged off, so in the end i had to paint them with nail vanish, i looked up the quotes i have used on them in the paper from the celebrations of wedding or the mourning off deaths. i am not sure yet on whether i will include these in my show as i don't really think they go with the rest of my work as they are very brightly painted.

Jars.

As part of my final piece i also decided to make 3D versions of a Heart, Lungs, and Liver out of paper macho to place inside glass jars, with this i also made labels of which i hand stitched "i give you my (and then the organ of which it was)" i am really pleased with these jars especially the labels i think they really make the piece. this was one of the pieces i enjoyed making the most as it was the most hands on, i think the painting of the organs could of been much better but overall i am very pleased with them.

Photographs

I really enjoyed dissecting the Heart and i really thought the photos i took while doing it were really nice that i wanted to have some of these photos in my final piece, i wasn't quite sure at first whether to use them in colour or black and white, the colour was very gross but the colours looked great and you could really tell what it was but the black and white looked more professional and not as disgusting so i went with the black and white i chose two of my favourite photos and i think they really work well with the other pieces.

Posters Number Three.

Water coloured Organs really liked the drips so kept them on for the posters think it looks really effective.

After doing my photoshopped posters i decided that they were just too flat and really didn't give the effect i was going for so i decided to try again at doing them by hand, i water coloured some more of my drawn organs so that they were a much better quality and so that i could stick them on top of the collaged paper just like the ones i had done on photoshop, i decided to keep the text the same as the ones i had done in photoshop swell but instead of using acrylic paint i decided to use water colour paint as it gave a much smoother feel and looked much better i left the organ donation part off as well because i felt that that made my work look far too clustered, i am really happy with how these posters turned out and they will be in my final piece for the show.

Poster Attempt Number Two.

Seen as i didn't really like my first ones i then decided that i would try to produce them digitally, so i scanned in all the different bits of material and then created my text in photoshop using the font Capitals , i didn't really like these designs either because they looked too flat even though they were meant to be collages but i liked the fact that i moved the text and made it much smaller resulting in the work being less 50/50 and looking more spacious and professional, i also liked the use of the water coloured organs i had done previously.

Posters Attempt Number One.

as part of my final piece i wanted to create 3 posters, each with the different organs on that i had been looking at, i had come up with three different saying's to put on these posters, "i give you my heart", "breathe my air", and "donate me" each having organ donation underneath them and then save  life under the donate me one. at first i really liked these posters but then the more i looked at them the more i saw there flaws i was planning on sewing the organs onto the paper where i had collaged a few bits and nice paper, i painted the type with acrylic paint and it looked rather patchy and messy so i didn't really like that either i liked the idea of the tea stained background and the sayings but the rest just didn't work at it was too 50/50 needed more space was just far too crowded.

Padlocks.

When i was on holiday in Paris when you walked onto a bridge they had loads of padlocks just randomly dangling off them saying love messages to people, who have passed who they love act. i really liked this idea and wanted to look into it more and maybe try create my own padlocks.

Family And Love.

I think that love in itself its a very Generous thing, many people do things and help the ones they love just because they love them and they expect nothing in return, like within a family they pick you up when your down help you when you need help and are always there for you.

Donate Money.

i thought i would look at people donating money and clothes, by doing this i did a series of quick sketches from going round to different donation points for clothes and into different shops to draw there various donation boxes. These are pages i selected out of my sketchbook.

Carrissa Kelsy

I really like Carrissa's work because I think its really comical and smart, i like the fact she has made them out of wood and left the wood natural rather then painting it.

Jared Nickerson

Jared Nickerson's work is really cartoony and original too me, i really liked the work he did with clocks and one of his clocks even made me create my own collage inspired by his clock, i really like the colours he uses they really work well together and there very vibrant and fun.

Sewing.

Created in workshop really like this one, love all the different coloured stitch and the different styles of stitch

I did these two as a practice for my final piece but decided that i didn't want to sew onto my final piece as compared to my first one these two are rather lifeless and boring and i don't think they worked at all

As part of our FMP we did a workshop in sewing i really enjoyed this and decided to incorporate it into my work more and i even started to use the sewing machine at home, i thought sewing my drawings gave my work a really jagged look and i thought it really worked and looked edgy.

Dissecting a Heart.

For part of my primary research i decided would per chase two hearts from the butchers so i could take photographs and draw from it, at first i really wasn't looking forward to doing it as the hearts felt so disgusting in my hands, but when i eventually started to do it, it was really enjoyable the colours of the heart were just astonishing such rich reds and pale pinks and there was so much to look at inside as well , it was most defiantly the most interesting part of my project and i am hoping to use a select few of the photos in my final piece.

Oliver Jeffers

I really like Oliver Jeffers work i decided to look at him because his work was very similar to an idea i had had for my final piece. i really like his simple colours and his illustrations they are very child friendly and by looking at his work you can tell he is an illustrator for children's books. i really like his character designs swell they are simple looking which i think works really well.

Giving Blood.

As part of my primary research i decided to go along with my parents while they gave blood. the photos aren't great because the nurse was rather fussy and obviously felt very uncomfortable with me taking the photos, but at east i have got some primary research in my sketchbook.

Time.

All pages out of my sketchbook a few observational one line drawings
 Collage created from observational drawings
Another Observational drawing more time spent on this one though

I then thought i would move onto looking at time, a lot of people give there time away to aid others such as in soup kitchens, homeless shelters, volunteering, and many more things i decided to look at clocks for this i didn't really explore this area as much as i would of hoped too.
