Statement Of Intent.

Statement Of Intent
Section 1.

During my time at Chesterfield College and the foundation course, I feel like I have really grown and have widened my knowledge about art and design, especially In graphic design. During the exploratory stage we explored many different areas of art and design, this helped in many ways for me because it opened me up to many different ways of working and different kinds of art and design, this also helped broaden my insight of artists and designers so I wasn't just looking at graphic designers and illustrators all the time I started looking at fine artists and 3d designers, to help give me inspiration. The life drawing ABC was surprisingly more enjoyable for me then I thought it would ever be, I enjoyed drawing the human figure in so many different materials especially with the paper towel and ink. The exploratory stage really taught me to open up and be more expressive with my work and not be so exact. We did drawing with our left hand, right hand, closing our eyes and continuous line drawings to help us loosen up I found this really hard at first because I like things to look perfect and neat but I soon realized being looser made my work look more effective and more exciting and was a lot quicker to do. The pixel manipulation ABC was most defiantly the best thing I could of done going into the foundation course with no experience how to use Photoshop what so ever, and now after having a few lessons and messing around a lot I feel like I'm starting to understand many of the tools and how to produce a much neater and cleaner digital image

Section 2.

After taking graphic design for a level I decided to move onto doing my foundation course to gain more experience and knowledge. After the exploratory stage I wasn't sure on whether to do graphic design or illustration, but I decided to do graphic design in the end as I enjoyed the typography side to it, and wanted to   Boost my experience in using Photoshop and illustrator. I decided to take graphic design after really enjoying the tasters in the exploratory stage, the postcard one being the best I enjoyed being left with a brief and being given a word to explore and experiment with. I like to be brief lead so this also contributed to me taking graphic design. During the pathway stage my style of working has really changed and I have really enjoyed this, I work a lot quicker and ideas come to me a lot faster, because of the various techniques my tutors have taught me from going out and sketching, spider diagrams, researching artists and designers, to then developing my sketches into various different designs either using Photoshop, colloguing and using various materials. I feel like I get into the work a lot quicker now because having such short projects means you have to work faster although it has been challenging to get all the work finished I feel that the overall outcome was positive and will help me in future when I go onto studying at UNI.

As for my future plans I aim to study graphic design at a UNI of my choice, to gain more experience and then become a freelance graphic designer with my own company and name, with this I would like to design my own graphical Tshirts on the side just because it's something I've always been interested in and something I would enjoy, I believe that being a graphic designer will make me happy and give me an enjoyable job for life.

Section 3.

I decided to base my final project on generosity, and the idea of people giving without expecting anything in return and the selflessness of their actions. Generosity is a very broad field and I'm going to look at every aspect of it and explore different ways of people being generous; For example giving blood and organ donors to then people giving up their time to help others. I am not quite sure on the final outcome of this project yet but I feel with the broadness of it I won't struggle to come up with ideas.

I will use both primary and secondary research during this project. I will do this by looking at a wide range of resources such as ringing the council up to ask about any events happening that involve helping people and take part. I will also keep my eye on the news and keep track of any attempts of generosity in my community. I will be doing a series of sketches and photographs to back up all my primary research.

My creative process will be a vital aspect throughout this project; I will take into account the various techniques I have learnt since starting my foundation course. Sketches, photographs, notes and collages will be helping me in developing my ideas, I will then scan things into Photoshop to produce a more digital and clean outcome and so I can also experiment and try out different ideas.

Week 1-2 Primary and secondary research
Week 3-4 Developing ideas from imagery, researching and trying out various techniques
Week 5-6 come up with ideas for final design mind
Week 7 create final outcome
Week 8 finish final outcome and set up exhibition

Section 4.

Throughout my project I will be evaluating at every stage, because ideas may change and different ideas might arise, I will do this by writing notes on every piece of work done and also by scanning my work in and writing about it on my blog. I will also take part in group critics with my fellow peers so that I can gain more inspiration and also learn were I am going wrong in my work, along side all of this I will also seek advice and have discussions with my tutor to see how I am progressing and whether my project is going in the right direction.
